In July 2011, a drug by the name of Xarelto was introduced that later on led to many serious consequences. People claimed to have side effects as severe as liver failure, vision loss, and even death by using the drug. This led to the filing of thousands of lawsuits against the providers of the blood thinner drug and the responsible companies had to pay $775 Million to settle 25000 lawsuits

FAQs
Xarelto is an anticoagulant that is manufactured by Bayer Healthcare AG and provided by Johnson and Johnson. The anticoagulant was brought into the market as an alternative to Warfarin. The FDA approved of the drug but for only limited conditions i.e. patients with knee or hip replacement surgeries which later on in 2012, was fully approved for other conditions i.e. deep vein thrombosis & pulmonary embolisms along with preventing strokes in some patients.
The job of Xarelto is to prevent or form blood clots but it could even fire back if not taken in the exact required amount. In many cases, uncontrollable internal bleeding may even damage the organ it is near. Some side effects include:
- Eye Bleeding
- Abnormal Liver Failure
- Vision Loss
- Rectal Bleeding
- Headaches
- Muscle Pain
For this reason, it is recommended that an accurate dosage should be taken that is prescribed only by a professional along with ensuring regular checkups.
The risk is particularly high for some people:
- Mild Renal Failure
- Elder People
- Extreme Body Weight
- Drug-Drug Interaction
A large number of lawsuits against the multi-national companies responsible for the drug has been made and that they had to be consolidated into multidistrict litigation (MDL). The Xarelto class action lawsuit is based on the claim that the users were not informed of the life-threatening consequences by the firms. According to the Xarelto lawsuit update, most lawsuits were settled by the companies after paying a huge amount that was equally paid by the two companies. Bayer’s (manufacturers), Johnson & Johnson (providers), and Janssen Pharmaceutical (a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson) all rejected the accusations made in the Xarelto side effect lawsuits and claimed that they opted for settlement as trials consume a lot of time and money. The lawyers of the firms stated that around 70 mentions were alarming the patients of the possibility of bleeding on the label of the drug. 6 lawsuits went to trial which was all won by the companies.
If you or your loved one is experiencing any of the above symptoms and recently taken the drug, then you should call a lawyer immediately and you would be compensated for physical and psychological harm by a large amount. This step would not only help you but also ensure drug safety in the world.
One of the factors that make Xarelto such a dangerous drug is that it doesn’t have a viable antidote. The FDA approved an antidote in 2018 called Andexxa but the problem with it is that it not possible for everyone to get access to it as it costs about $27500 which is very expensive.
